Book Review: The Eczema Cure by Emily Bartlett
2012
Do you or someone you know have eczema? You know… the itchy, dry, red skin rash that can ooze, flake, and be a major source of frustration?
As someone who has struggled with skin issues for most of my life, I have spent literally hundreds of hours trying to figure out the key to smooth, radiant, beautiful skin. I spent many hours inside a doctor’s office while being prescribed some sort of cream or pill to help “cure” the problem. But the problem was that none of that stuff ever did anything. At best they covered up some of the symptoms, but none of them really addressed the root issue.
Emily Bartlett, a health practitioner who has been practicing Chinese and holistic medicine in LA and consulting patients around the globe talks similarly about the mainstream “treatments” for eczema:
“These treatments fail because stopping the rash does not resolve the reason why the rash is happening in the first place… Using cortisone cream to fix eczema is a bit like paiting a rickety house that’s about to fall down. It makes it look better, and you may feel better for a short period of time—but ultimately the underlying issues must be addressed.”
Emily is a pretty smart cookie. And by pretty smart, I mean really smart. Not only has she been helping people find better health at her awesome blog www.holistickid.com, but she’s also helped many people cure their eczema and find beautiful skin. Just check out this difference in her own daughter:
Emily’s book The Eczema Cure is an amazing resource for anyone struggling with itchy, dry skin. She lays out a simple 4 step action plan that involves looking at the various causes of eczema and then provides a gameplan to treat it from the inside out. Of course, the biggest culprit of any skin issue is diet. As a real food genius, Emily provides some great insight and delicious recipes to help treat the real root problem of eczema.
The Eczema Cure covers the following:
- Why eczema happens, so you understand the root cause behind your condition.
- How steroids and antibiotics actually contribute to your condition rather than heal it.
- Exactly how to identify environmental and dietary triggers, so you can put an end to those flares!
- How to “put out the fire” that causes your itchy, red, oozing rash.
- How to strengthen your immunity, so you’re armed with the strongest defense to defeat your eczema.
- The exact supplements and nutrients your body needs to heal, and the best sources.
- The truth about probiotic foods, including their vital role in your diet.
- The facts about dairy, including must-have information about dairy sensitivities and alternatives.
- Tips and recipes for cleansing foods that detoxify gently.
….and MUCH more.

While a visit to her office could cost you over $200, she is offering her ebook, The Eczema Cure, right now at a special introductory rate of $24.95. Having read this book myself, I can tell you that the information in here is really worth every penny.

Grain free diet: Would you ever go grain free?
[...] eczema-like rash on my leg that just won’t go away, and I’m pretty sure it’s food related). This is ...

I am definitely reading this! My son was diagnosed with eczema when he was only a couple month old. I eleiminated all possible external triggers and though he has never had a big flare up (no red, angry looking rash) he still gets those dry/rough patches now and then so I’m particularly interested in the nutrition aspect of it, as my gut tells me it has something to do with what we eat (we, since I’m still breastfeeding.) Thanks for this book suggestion! I’m loving your blog!
Thanks, Stephanie! I hope you enjoy the book. Good luck with your son. My daughter also had some mild eczema for her first couple of months. Finding those triggers can be a little challenging, but I wish I would have had this book then.
Why isn’t this book available at my local library
I can’t afford it right now, as we are implementing GAPS and a non-toxic lifestyle and it’s QUITE (ridiculously) expensive.
I wish there was a way to get all these awesome digital resources in the public library. Wouldn’t that be great?
I totally get that choosing where our money goes is a tricky thing, especially when trying to implement toxic-free real food living. Wow, it can get expensive fast.
You may want to check out Emily’s blog: http://www.holistickid.com. You may find a lot of great info regarding this topic on her site for free. Then if the time ever feels right you can decide if the book is the way to go.
Good luck!
I agree … $30 is a lot of money for a 25 page PDF file. How is this a book? My understanding is that if you are doing GAPS and already healing your gut you do not need this book to tell you to heal your gut.
I have been suffering for 40 years with eczema. I don’t use pills or creams. I tried all the diets. My home is non toxic. What can this PDF tell me I haven’t already tried.
I challange Emily Bartlett to cure my eczema. If she really cared about people she would help them without charging $30 … if and when I am eczema free I will share my story because I have a heart and don’t want others suffering needlessly. Obviously she has never suffered with this horrible life altering disease.
My daughter gets eczema when she gets bug bites (with Texas ants- that’s actually a regular occurrence!) She also has brittle hair- the dr. said those go hand in hand. I wonder if the eczema cure would also help her hair? It’s so fine it literally breaks off in my hand sometimes!
So interesting that you should mention this as I just got a bug bite about two days ago and my skin has reacted SO BADLY to it! I think the book might be really useful for your daughter. I personally believe that skin and hair issues almost always have roots tied to our diet. Good luck! Brittle hair is no fun!
