Just Move: Lifting babies is like lifting weights
2012
Remember how I wanted to blame my back pain on carrying my cute Little C? Well, even though changing my chair proved to be really useful, I still find it important to tune into my body while carrying my little bundle of joy. In fact, I often see moms (and dads) holding their babies and toddlers in a way that can be quite harmful. Nobody wants to look like a hunched back old lady and yet the habits we have now could lead to that! So let’s check in with how we can more effectively hold our children.
It’s time for another movement video post!

This is awesome!! I’m not a mama yet, but I have held my fair share of babies as a nanny and an auntie, and I was DEFINITELY doing it wrong! I just pinned this on Pinterest.
Thanks, Emily! I admit that there are still days when I do it wrong (especially the bigger my girl gets), and I’m supposed to know better.
Gosh carrying babies is the single biggest thing that is stressing our backs off late! So lovely to reinforce correct posture through this video Robin! I am going to get my husband to watch this:D
Thanks, Meghs. I’m always amazed at how easy it is to fall into bad habits when carrying the little one. But with extra 25 lbs, it’s really important to pay attentions.
For some reason I’m only getting 8 seconds of this video…??
Nevermind, it magically fixed itself, lol. Great video! I’m constantly having hip trouble due to years of holding babies while shifting my weight to one side…it’s a hard habit to break.
Oh good! Technology always scares me a bit when it stops working.
Thank you!!! This has been on my mind lately, especially after seeing a picture of myself recently in which I look like a crumpled old lady. UGH. (I have two babes, but I’m still a spring chicken!
) I am taking steps to remedy this situation, and this will help tremendously, I’m sure.
Awareness is half the battle. Good luck!
I loved this video with the music! I know I’ve been doing things all wrong for a while (with the whole “hip hold”), but had know idea of how I was supposed to carry this heavy little monster. What do you think about the Hipseat? http://www.hippychick.co.za. We have one but I never remember to wear it! ps: love all your posts : )
Hadn’t hear of it until I just looked at the website. From my first glance could be promising. I’ll have to look into it more when I get a moment. Thanks!
